Harris County Voters Approved to Continue SPLOST
During the March 12, 2024 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) election, Harris County voters approved to continue SPLOST for an additional six years. During this SPLOST election, a total of 4,143 people voted, 2,354 (56.8%) voted YES and 1,789 (43.2%) voted NO. Since Harris County has 26,465 active voters, this SPLOST election had a 15.7% voter turn-out rate. The new SPLOST collection period will begin April 1, 2025, continue for six years until March 31, 2031, and is anticipated to collect $27.1M over the six-year collection period. The voter approved projects include:
County Projects
- $1,056,835 to further renovate the courthouse
- $4,000,000 for recreational facilities
- $8,436,481 for water and sewer purposes
- $2,799,000 for Community Center debt payments
- $4,975,000 for public safety vehicles and associated equipment
- $1,553,229 to go toward a replacement 911 radio system
