New County Prison Warden

Harris County welcomes the new county prison Warden, Cynthia Nelson. Ms. Nelson began work at the county prison on Jan. 17, 2017. She has a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Masters of Public Administration both from Columbus State University. She has vast experience at the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDOC) serving as Warden at Central State Prison and Autry State Prison, Superintendent at Augusta Diversion Center and Larmore Probation Detention Center, Deputy Warden at Phillips State Prison, and until recently GDOC’s Regional Director for the Southwest Region. Rails to Trails

Harris County was awarded a $500,000 federal Transportation Enhancement (TE) grant to construct a multi-use trail (walking/cycling) on the abandoned railroad right-of-way along SR 27 beginning at Chipley Street in Pine Mountain and extending 1.92 miles near the Callaway Gardens purchasing office. This project is a first phase of a Rails to Trails conversion project consisting of a ten-foot wide asphaltic concrete surface with a minimum of two foot shoulders on each side. Harris County is preparing to pave or resurface several county roads during 2017 as listed below using state LMIG funds and county SPLOST funds: Lickskillet Road resurfacing beginning at Harris Road and ending at SR 103, a total of 3.8 miles. Hardage Road paving beginning at Lower Blue Springs Road and extending 0.7 miles or just passed CT Walker Road. New Equipment is Purchased

Harris County is continually replacing vehicles and equipment as the existing ones become non-operational.
