911
Handles emergency call for all Harris County dispatching
calls from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the
Hamilton, Pine Mountain, Shiloh, and Waverly Hall Police
Departments, the Harris County Emergency Medical Service
(EMS), and the 12 Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD). 911 will
soon be able to pinpoint calls from cell phones, with the
upgrade planned for early 2007. When someone calls from a
home phone (land line), 911 received information such as
the address of the home, the directions to the home, which
EMS and VFD to dispatch.
EMA
Handles natural and man-made disasters and is the local
agency that coordinates with the Georgia Emergency Management
Agency (GEMA) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA). Planning, to include Emergency Operation plans for
the county, school safety plans, and even home emergency
planning, is a major part of EMA. EMA also works with Law
Enforcement, EMS, and Fire Services with training and exercise.
Homeland Security. Working hand-in-hand with the Sheriff’s
Office and other Law Enforcement agencies in the area on
potential problems the County may encounter if there was
an attack anywhere in our region. The 911/EMA office is assisting
emergency workers in getting the required National Incident
Management System (NIMS) training, which is mandated by the
Federal Government under Presidential Directive Number 5. |
