This department, under the direction of the County Manager, consist of a 150-bed county correctional facility that houses minimum to medium security male state inmates for sentencing of one or more years. This facility operates a work release program that allows the inmates to work on county property and provide county services including lawn care, janitorial services, garbage collection services, and other services. The major revenue source for this department is a per day fee for each inmate paid from the Georgia Department of Corrections.

The facility houses 150 state inmates providing an inmate labor force to various county departments on a daily basis.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Statement
Harris County Prison has zero tolerance toward sexual misconduct, sexual harassment and sexual activity involving inmates. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) the facility will maintain a safe environment through identification, prevention and intervention procedures while providing a safe and secure prison.
Reported allegations of sexual abuse or harassment can be reported to a correctional staff member, non-security employee, volunteer or contractor. All reports will remain confidential and appropriately investigated. Harris County Prison will not tolerate any retaliation toward anyone who makes a PREA allegation.
